Wide Column Stores
Glossary Page
Wide Column Stores, also known as Extensible Record Stores or often referred to as column-oriented databases in German, store data in records that can potentially contain a large number of dynamic columns. Since the column name, similar to the key of the records, is not fixed, and a record can have billions of columns, Wide Column Stores can be seen as two-dimensional key-value stores. Although they share the property of schema flexibility with Document Stores, their implementation differs significantly.
